The second section is arguably the best part of Fable 3 . The king has been overthrown and all those people who’ve received promises from the hero come calling. The hero can live up to their end of the bargain or choose to break the promise in order to earn more money. While it seems like a simple ‘Good v. Evil’ character decision, it’s not black and white. A large amount of money is required to defend Albion from an outside foe. These choices go beyond the standard ‘Good v. Evil’ choices found in most games like this, and it really adds to the experience of the game. Players finally will feel like every choice they make can/will affect the world in some way. In turn, the third section of the game is directly affected by choices in the second. So depending on the choices made in the first sections, the world of Albion will be quite different at the end of the game. And really, Peter Molyneux, for all his broken promises and enormous aspirations, is an innovator. He’s proven his enchantment with taking well-tread ideas and making them into something unexpected. Populous remains one of the most important games of all time, and that couldn’t have happened without some desire to step beyond the established setting. Fable to a lesser extent and certainly with the Milo demo, Peter Molyneux hasn’t made anything flat-out terrible in decades. But his tendency to get excited about his new ideas so much has led to a negative perception of who he is: many in the gaming community consider him a dreamer, not a doer. Quite frankly, I think that’s unfair to say. Some companies are perfectly content with what they’re doing in gaming, but Molyneux has proven time and again that he’s never satisfied with his creations. He’s always reaching further, even if his eagerness to progress has made him despise the past and ignore the present in awkwardly narrow-sighted ways.

I really like Death Stranding , but for the opposite reasons of most people. Many despise the traversal mechanics and adore Kojima’s writing. I can barely stand many of Kojima’s cringey scenes, but love the melancholic but tense and engaging delivery mechanics. Death Stranding tends to struggle anytime other than when it does do that.
